The HSRC, a renowned research organisation, conducted a study to understand the impact of education on first-generation African graduates – This contributed to the creation of the African Youth Livelihoods Virtual Museum and the African Youth Livelihoods Custom Website Development, a dynamic platform showcasing digitised resources, including podcasts, academic research papers and seminars/webinars.

Hosting:

HashTopic hosted the website with a leading hosting provider renowned for its reliability, security features, and commitment to ensuring optimal performance and uptime. We ensured the hosting had advanced security measures, guaranteeing uninterrupted accessibility to the African Youth Livelihoods Virtual Museum website. We also ensured that the hosting was a secure hosting environment, and data integrity and confidentiality were prioritized, bolstered by features such as regular backups and 24/7 monitoring.

Wireframe designs for HSRC’s website

Visually Engaging Design:

HashTopic crafted a visually captivating and uniform design across all web pages, enhancing the user experience. Leveraging innovative design elements such as intuitive navigation, vibrant colour schemes, and striking imagery, we aimed to captivate and retain visitor attention, encouraging engagement and exploration.

Design Process:

Our design approach encompassed the creation of multiple conceptual layouts, prioritising visual appeal, user interaction, and accessibility. Through detailed wireframes, we presented HSRC with a preview of the website’s potential layout. Once the final design was selected, we used WordPress’s dynamic structuring to present the content, images, and videos.

Custom Website design Functionality:

To enhance user interactivity, we implemented dynamic features, including a registration form for the Virtual Museum launch event. Features like hovering, pop-ups and others also streamlined user engagement and encouraged exploration.

Security and SSL Certification:

We introduced comprehensive security protocols to safeguard the website against potential threats. Measures such as robust firewall implementations, regular security audits, and stringent data encryption mechanisms fortified the website’s security infrastructure. Additionally, acquiring an SSL certificate bolstered data transmission encryption, ensuring confidentiality and integrity.

Optimisation for Speed and Mobile Accessibility:

We ensured that efforts were directed towards optimising website performance and accessibility, prioritising streamlined loading speeds and seamless navigation across diverse devices. Through meticulous file clean-up, data size reduction, and mobile-responsive design implementation, we aimed to provide an optimised browsing experience, particularly for users accessing the website via mobile devices with varying connectivity.

Mobile responsiveness: HSRC’s website displayed on tablets and mobile phones.

Maintenance Support and Training:

Over a span of 2 years, HashTopic provided comprehensive maintenance support for the HSRC website. This included routine maintenance tasks and ad-hoc support provisions, complemented by training sessions to empower staff in content management and website maintenance.
